Welcome to 4K 2015-2016!

Hello Families!

Welcome to my 4k blog!  At the top you will find tabs that will be helpful to you through out the year.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

I wanted to take some time to explain a couple of things in more detail before the school year started.  If any questions come up based on this new information, please feel free to contact me via email.

Transportation:
Please let us know how you will be getting to and from school (if you have not done so already).  If the first day HOME is different than what will be typical, please send a note so we can get them to the right line.

If you are not riding the bus TO school on any day, please inform the bus company so they are not sitting outside waiting and they can continue with the route.

If your child's transportation changes for any reason home please either: write a note or call the office to let us know.

Snack:
We do snacks for a whole week.  Many of you signed up for a week already.  I will email you as well as put it at the bottom of the newsletter each week before your week.

Snacks must be healthy--avoiding sugar in the first three ingredients.  This does include birthday snacks.  We ask you to find a healthy "treat" or send a non-food item.  Frozen yogurt, muffins, pencils, stickers, erasers, etc are all great.

We do have a peanut allergy so we ask that all snacks for the week be prepackaged (the labels need to come to school).  We cannot serve anything that contains peanuts or was made in a factory with peanuts.  Some good snacks include: anything from Peperidge Farms (this brand specifically is nut free, off-brand such as whales instead of goldfish is not nut free), string cheese, fresh fruit/veggies (these can be cut at home as we know there is no other ingredients you do not need to purchase precut fruit).

Weekly Folders:
These are the folders that were sent home at orientation/locker night.  They are either blue St. Edward folders or a colorful folder with a sticker of an eagle and polar bear.  If you have these, please return them.  These folders will come home weekly (Wednesdays).  Please empty the folder, return what is needed, and return the folder as soon as you can each week.

Daily Folders:
These folders come home daily. These folders are the ones you bought as school supplies.  We have written their name on them and put them in their folders to bring home the  first day.  We have also put paper in the middle of these folders to use for daily communication.  If you have anything you need to tell us about or we have anything small to tell you it will be in there.  This is also where you can let us know if any appointments or transportation changes.  Please check this daily as it will be where we let you know of any little things through out the day that may need attention at home.  Please also check the pockets to remove their work they are done with to keep them from getting to full as well as help your child be a part of their learning.  We check them daily as well.

Dress:
We do have a dress code that includes tennis shoes every day.  Straps for boys and girls need to be atleast an inch thick.  Shorts for boys or girls needs to be no more than 4 fingers above the knee.  We do not have any rules about when shorts can be worn, but please make sure they are dressed for the weather.  We go outside unless it is below zero or raining so please make sure to dress them for the outdoor weather as well.  This does include snowpants, boots, hats, and mittens on snowy days.  We do require bus students to go home fully dressed in case there is a bus issue and students would be outside for an extended period of time.

I hope you found this to be informational and not overwhelming!  Please let me know if you have any questions and I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the year!

Next Week:
Theme: All About Me!
Letter of the Week: None-writing our names and holding pencils
Snack: Mrs. Gloudemans & Mrs. Sandy
