watch the weather and dress in layers. It is normally cooler in the morning in the building and at recess.

    • Tennis shoes must be worn for recesses and Gym class.

    • Shorts must be longer and no less than one hand-width above the knee.
We have been actively practicing our graduation songs all week!  They are loving them and I cant wait for them to show them off at graduation!

Students read a farm early reader this week. Students had the chance to practice left to right, top to bottom as well as the concept of one word pointed out for each word.  We also worked on context clues to help us read the books.

We finished up our number books and caught up on our cutting, pasting, sticking, coloring, and more!  They turned out wonderful!

Students spent the rest of the week finishing up past work, practicing for graduation, and more.  It has been very busy!  We cannot believe there is only 7 more days!

We have been actively practicing our graduation songs all week!  They are loving them and I cant wait for them to show them off at graduation!

This week we were discussing farms.  We started the week with a discussion of baby animals and their mom animals. This was an activity that worked on their cutting skills, direction following, as well as conceptual knowledge and new vocabulary.

This then connected to our new pocket chart activity in which we matched the babies to their moms and even started trying to match the word labels to the animals.  This is working on that initial sound as well as sounding out the sounds of individual letters.

We continued work on our number books. We put the correct number of stickers on our books, then color the correct amount of pictures, and then we look through magazines and cut out the numbers and glue them on.

We also did a farm/cow math book. There were a variety of barns with numbers on the doors, and the students then put the correct amount of cows by the barn.  Students are doing great with their number concepts!

Students have been creating words with what they dig out of the sensory table this week. It is really bringing meaning to the sensory table play in a fun and new way.

It was beautiful weather so we got outside for some outdoor gym class as well as playground play.  We had a lot of fun and we are loving getting outside!  It is often a reward to get outside more than once if we can get our stuff done, follow directions, clean up, and get ready quick enough!

Students labeled the parts of the plants.  They wrote the initial sound to the images, and colored it. We are doing well with our phonemic awareness (initial sound), writing our letters, knowing our letters, fine motor skills, and following directions.  This will be a part of their science journals, which we also contributed more to this week.

We continue to work on our number books. We worked on numbers 4, 5, and 6 this week.  We colored 4 people, 5 ovals, and 6 circles.  We cut out 4, 5, and 6 out of ads, and magazines.  We also put stickers on touch points.

We made our Mother's Day gifts: daffodil sun catchers.  Students cut on a curved line, followed directions, pulled apart tissue paper (pinching skills), Cut on a straight line, put the phrase in the right order (by hearing the initial sound and the front of the phrase), and more.  We then made our own gift bags: students required to write their name on the paper and then Mom, I love you, and Love were written on the board so they could write these as well.

***As always, any questions or concerns please feel free to email me!

  • FINAL Reading with the Stars Wednesday MAY 15, 2013! Please RSVP regardless of attendance for correct amount of copies.
  • Dress for the Weather.  We go outside Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Students need coats, hats, and mittens.  If there is snow or even if it is in the 30s I would suggest snow pants and boots for warmth and dryness.  St. Edward Extended day families, these students go outside for "long recess" after lunch daily and need to be dressed for it daily.  Please come with everything they need to stay warm and have fun!
  • Even as Spring approaches, if there is snow we need your child to come in snowpants and winter gear for playing on the playground.  If they do not have the proper clothes, they will need to stand on the blacktop with the teachers.
  • Lost and Found.  Our lost and found is growing.  If you are missing something please feel free to check out the box on top of the lockers by our door, or email me and I will take a look for you!

Students worked on the life cycle of a plant with a seed, sprout, flower, and spreading seeds.  They illustrated this in a graphic organizer that also had them writing the initial sound and using those fine motor skills to draw the cycle. They turned out cute!

We are very busy working on our number books.  For each number, we put that many stickers on, draw that many pictures, and find that number in magazines or ads and glue them on.  It is going to be another cute keepsake!

IF YOU HAVE ANY EXTRA ADS, THEY WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED--ADS HAVE LOTS OF NUMBERS FOR US TO CUT OUT! :)

We also made flowers out of shapes.  Students worked hard naming the shapes, and following the multi-step directions and listening to the directional words.  they helped make our door look like it is growing a garden!

***As always, any questions or concerns please feel free to email me!  Have a great weekend!
