May 13-May 16

Important Notes:

  • We are back to our 4 day schedule.  We have school Monday-Thursday. AM: 7:50-10:55, PM: 11:55-3:00
  • 4K Parent Surveys  came home this week. They are on the bright Yellow paper.  Please fill out and return by May 24th.  This information helps us plan for next year.  Your paper will be taken out of the folder and put into a community pile so your answers are anonymous.  Please feel free to be honest, we would love your feedback.
  • I will be gone in the afternoon (PM class) on Thursday, May 23.  Mr. Gloudemans is graduating and getting his Doctorate of Pharmacy in Illinois that day.  Mrs. Drummond will be the teacher in the afternoon.  If you have any questions or concern, please let me know. I will be sure to tell the students this information throughout the week as well.
  • GRADUATION PHOTOS went well.  They will be done in the next two weeks (in time for graduation).
  • Graduation will be Wednesday May 29 from 5-6pm MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
    • Students have been helping prepare for graduation with learning songs and helping me with the power point.  At graduation, students will be SINGING, SHOWING OFF SOME TECHNOLOGY SKILLS, PHOTOS, SENDING HOME ALPHABET AND NUMBER BOOKS AND GETTING CERTIFICATES.  Please come for the fun!
  • Our last day of school is Thursday June 6, 2014.  We will have both the AM and PM sessions that day.
  • Lost and Found.  Our lost and found is growing.  If you are missing something please feel free to check out the box on top of the lockers by our door, or email me and I will take a look for you!
  • SCHOOL DRESS CODE:
    • STUDENTS HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE MOVING ABOUT THE PLAYGROUND IN SANDALS.  THOUGH THEY ARE ALLOWED AT SCHOOL IF THEY HAVE A BACK STRAP, STUDENTS MOVE MUCH MORE FREELY ON THE PLAYGROUND (it is covered in pea gravel that gets stuck in shoes) IF THEY BRING TENNIS SHOES TO PUT ON WHILE PLAYING.
  • Warm weather clothing: We do not have a specific policy regarding when students can wear shorts. Please
watch the weather and dress in layers. It is normally cooler in the morning in the building and at recess.
    Our specific rules say:
    • All shoes MUST have backstraps. NO flip flops or other sandals without backstrap.
    • Tennis shoes must be worn for recesses and Gym class.
    • Tank top straps must be at least one inch wide.
    • Shorts must be longer and no less than one hand-width above the knee.
We have been actively practicing our graduation songs all week!  They are loving them and I cant wait for them to show them off at graduation!

This week we were discussing farms.  We started the week with a discussion of baby animals and their mom animals. This was an activity that worked on their cutting skills, direction following, as well as conceptual knowledge and new vocabulary.

This then connected to our new pocket chart activity in which we matched the babies to their moms and even started trying to match the word labels to the animals.  This is working on that initial sound as well as sounding out the sounds of individual letters.

We continued work on our number books. We put the correct number of stickers on our books, then color the correct amount of pictures, and then we look through magazines and cut out the numbers and glue them on.

We also did a farm/cow math book. There were a variety of barns with numbers on the doors, and the students then put the correct amount of cows by the barn.  Students are doing great with their number concepts!

Students have been creating words with what they dig out of the sensory table this week. It is really bringing meaning to the sensory table play in a fun and new way.

It was beautiful weather so we got outside for some outdoor gym class as well as playground play.  We had a lot of fun and we are loving getting outside!  It is often a reward to get outside more than once if we can get our stuff done, follow directions, clean up, and get ready quick enough!
